Voting Guide: Vote FOR Amendment A to Modernize Notices & Save Taxpayer Dollars
Stop wasting $800,000 on print newspaper ads. Vote FOR common-sense digital notices.
Welcome back to our GOP voting guide series. Today, we are focusing on Constitutional Amendment A, a common-sense update that modernizes public notices while saving Utah taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Right now, the Utah Constitution forces the state to publish public notices about constitutional amendments in print newspapers across all 29 counties for two months leading up to an election. That requirement was written when newspapers were the primary way people received news. Today, most Utahns get their information online and on mobile devices.
Publishing these print notices costs taxpayers roughly $800,000 to $1.4 million every two years—paying for print ads that fewer and fewer people actually read.
Passed unanimously by the Utah Legislature, Amendment A updates this requirement for the 21st century. Here is why you should vote FOR Amendment A:
Saves Taxpayer Money: Replaces expensive print ads with online publication, saving up to $1.4 million every two years.
Improves Accessibility: Requires the Lieutenant Governor to publish the full text of all proposed amendments on public state websites for 60 days before the election, making it far easier for voters to access and read.
Preserves Transparency: Does not eliminate public notice requirements—it simply updates how notice is delivered so voters can easily find and review the information on digital platforms.
It’s time to stop wasting taxpayer money on outdated newspaper mandates. Vote FOR Constitutional Amendment A!
