Voting Guide: Why Suni is the Independent Voice We Need for County Clerk
Welcome back to our GOP voting guide series. Today, we are taking a deeper look at the race for Summit County Clerk and why Suni Woolstenhulme is the clear choice over Malena Stevens. The County Clerk must be an impartial referee of our elections and public records.
Unfortunately, Malena Stevens represents the political establishment—a career politician and partisan insider who was handed the job by her embattled predecessor, Eve Furse. We need a return to an independent, open, and fiscally responsible Clerk’s office.
One of the most glaring issues facing the Clerk's office today is a lack of transparency. Right now, Summit County taxpayers are paying for an advanced enterprise governance platform (Granicus) designed to make public records fully accessible. Yet, the establishment—including Malena and Eve—have chosen to keep the public portal closed.
They have restricted voters’ access to important meeting information.
Instead of allowing voters to easily search and view agenda items together with the votes, associated documents, and synchronized video streams, you are forced to hunt through massive 300-page PDF document dumps and hours of videos. Suni, bringing real-world business experience, will open this portal to deliver the true operational transparency that taxpayers are already paying for.
When you look at the broader contrast between the two candidates, the choice becomes even clearer. Suni stands out by:
Listening to the Voters: As a member of the Snyderville Planning Commission, Malena was one of two who voted in favor of the Dakota Pacific project. Then, as chair of the Summit County Council, she pushed through its approval, ignoring the 90% of voters who actively opposed it. Suni is an independent business owner who listens to constituents and has broad support across the political spectrum.
Respecting Taxpayers: Malena accepted a taxpayer-funded trip to the Paris Olympics on her way out the door while taking home the highest compensation of her peers. Suni is focused on true public service and will actively work to reduce her own compensation as Clerk.
Prioritizing Impartiality Over Partisanship: Malena's resume shows her work as a partisan consultant who takes money from other elected officials, creating conflicts of interest when counting votes. Suni accepts zero PAC money and refuses donations from officeholders, ensuring she is not beholden to any elected official.
Administering the Law, Not Activism: Malena blurs the line between administration and activism by using her platform to advocate for personal policy preferences. Suni believes the Clerk’s job is strictly to administer and follow the law fairly for everyone, not to influence it.
Suni represents a fresh, independent approach driven by real-world, private sector experience, not Park City insiders. She will restore trust, transparency, and accountability to the Clerk's office.
