Why Caucus Matters — And Why You Should Attend
Every two years, Republicans across Summit County gather for one of the most important steps in the political process: Caucus Night. It is where grassroots participation becomes real, and where neighbors decide who will represent them as the Republican Party prepares for the next election cycle.
This year’s Caucus Night will be held on March 17, 2026, with registration beginning at 6:00 PM and meetings starting at 7:00 PM. To make participation easier, there will be three caucus locations across the county: North Summit High School in Coalville, South Summit Middle School in Kamas, and Ecker Hill Middle School in Park City.
If you have never attended caucus before, it helps to understand what it actually is. Caucus is not a rally, and it is not a primary election. It is a working meeting held at the precinct level where Republicans gather face-to-face to elect delegates and local party leadership. The delegates chosen that evening will go on to represent their neighbors at County and State Republican Conventions, where Republican candidates for public office are selected. In other words, caucus is where the foundation of the Republican nominating process begins.
Caucus Night is also an opportunity to step forward. Any registered Republican who lives in their precinct may choose to run for Precinct Chair or to serve as a County or State Delegate. These are the people who help shape the direction of the party and represent their communities in the convention process.
Pre-registration is now open through the Utah Republican Party’s online system at https://reg.utgop.org/. When you register, the system will automatically look up your voter information, confirm your precinct, and tell you exactly where you should attend caucus. You will also have the opportunity to declare your interest in serving as Precinct Chair, County Delegate, or State Delegate. Pre-registration is not required, but it does make check-in faster and helps the evening run smoothly.
Caucus is grassroots politics at its most local level. It is neighbors talking with neighbors, making decisions together, and choosing who will represent them moving forward. If you care about the direction of the Republican Party and the candidates who will carry its banner in upcoming elections, this is where your voice begins to matter most.
We encourage every Summit County Republican to participate. Show up, get involved, and help shape the future of our party.
